In October we recorded a whopping 54 tonnes or recycled cardboard alone. That’s a lot of cardboard boxes!
Cardboard takes up huge amounts of space at our recycling centre. Previously, transporting cardboard without compression meant many lorry trips, which was both costly and bad for the environment.
In June we met with QCR Recycling Equipment to discuss this issue. The best option for us was to buy an industrial baler. The QCR 700 horizontal baler (to be precise). The great thing about the baler is it can compress waste to a much smaller size; making it much easier to handle at the recycling centre, whilst being more economical and environmentally friendly to transport.
The bales we are producing weigh in at over 800kg each.
We also bale soft plastics and farm silage wrap allowing us to find outlets for these waste streams that used to be taken to landfill. We are always trying to reduce our environmental footprint, for us as a business and our customers.
To date we have baled more than 200 tonnes of cardboard, plastics and general waste from businesses and residents of Banbury and across Oxfordshire.
